And it may seem like they are gods gift to humans when you start taking them. Nevertheless, they can end up ruining your life.

I’m not saying that they are bad for everyone. Some people need severe help to overcome depression with biochemical intervention. So, it can be necessary for some people. But, let’s call it what it is, a drug. And it’s highly addictive.

Antidepressants have become a prevalent drug to help treat depression. As a matter of fact, 13% of Americans above 12 years old use these drugs. This is an increase of almost 64% over 15 years. And women are twice as likely to take them as men. These numbers are frightening! But why is this happening to us?

Maybe it can have something to do with profits. If we look at the antidepressant market value, there were sold pills for $14.11 billion in 2017, with an estimated $15,98 billion by 2023. That’s a lot of money! And, a lot of reasons for companies to continue pushing this out into the population.

Furthermore, when you start taking them, it’s challenging to stop again. There are 25 million Americans that have been taking this drug for more than 2 years. And about 15.5 million that have been taking them for 5 years. Not to mention, in just 5 years, this is a 60% increase for people taking them for 2 years and a doubling of people going on 5 years.

In conclusion, there is something wrong with our society on a fundamental level. Our modern society lets people believe that the only way to treat any mood and behavior issue needs to be medicated.

Of course, some people need this. But isn’t 300 million people a little over the top?

It’s only a small percentage of the medicated people who actually need this drug. They just feel like they don’t have any other options because their doctor tells them to take it. So, let me be the one to tell you. There are other alternatives out there!

You pay such a high price when you take antidepressants. Not just monetarily but mentally.
